Fourth cutting alfalfa underway

The 2010 alfalfa hay production is forecast to be four percent above last year, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service, Nebraska Field Office. Added to the corn, soybean and sorghum forecasted harvest numbers, it should add up to a good year for Nebraska farmers.
The corn crop is forecast to be the second largest of record, with yield forecast at a record high 180 bushels per acre.

Keeping focus, staying the course and striving for excellence at RPS

Last week the Nebraska Department of Education released the results of last spring’s NeSA (Nebraska State Accountability)-Reading State Test scores. The chart below shows the breakdown of how well our schools stacked up in comparison to the state averages.
Keeping focus
At first glance, the results definitely appear gloomy but not all that surprising. Overall, the Ravenna Elementary and Secondary students performed below the State averages. Although this was disappointing, these scores only validated the concerns that existed within the district in the area of reading. Staying the course
Reading scores and state testing have dominated the headlines the past several months. However, it cannot and will not stop there. Steps are being taken to review areas of improvement in both math and science.

New teachers being the year at Litchfield Public Schools

 

 

 

Three new faces are getting acquainted with students and staff at Litchfield Public Schools.
Paul Polk is the new Guidance Counselor for the school. Litchfield also has a new music teacher in Paul Ramp who is originally from Friend, NE. Richard Ziegler is a German exchange teacher from Cologne, Germany who comes to the LHS for an internship teaching English.

 

 

State reading test results released

Nebraska Education Commissioner Roger Breed announced test results last week on the newly revised Nebraska reading standards. Reading standards determine what students should know and be able to do in specific grades.
Nearly seven of every 10 (68.6) Nebraska students who were tested on the state’s first ever statewide reading test met or exceeded the state’s standards.
