First round against Sutton Mustangs
This Thursday, the Ravenna boys basketball team will begin their journey for their seventh State championship against the Sutton Mustangs. The Class C-2 game will tip-off at 7:00 pm at Lincoln Southeast.
Both teams have had recent success at State, but Ravenna has the edge with two titles, a runner-up and a third place finish in the past five years. Sutton’s last title came in 2003. Before that they won in Class C-1 in 1989. They also had runner-up finishes in 1987 and in 2002.
Ravenna’s State history totals six state titles. They were in 1918, 1921, 1922, 1927, 2005, and last year’s championship. Most impressively though is Ravenna’s record at state since 2004. They are 11-3.
Sutton’s last trip to State prior to this year was in 2006 when they lost in the first round to Ponca.

Ravenna school board goes ahead with theater renovations
|
Jay Spearman with Ameritas Investment Corp. was in attendance at a Public Hearing Monday evening, to present figures for funding the Ravenna Learning Center renovation. The hearing was held at 7:30 p.m. at Ravenna High School. Spearman said the $530,000 Limited Tax Obligation Build America Bonds will be paid off in eight years with the District levying a limited tax that shouldn't exceed an average 2.4 cents per year. An itemized estimate of project costs was available. No public comments, either written or verbal, were received at the hearing.
During regular session, the board unanimously voted to approve the resolution for financing the Learning Center renovation. Supt. Dwaine Uttecht said 20 requests for bid documents have been received already. On March 16 a pre-bid conference will be held when contractors will be in the building to tour the project area. March 25, bids are due and will be opened at 3:00 p.m., then there will be a special meeting of the board at 7:30 on March 29 to award the bid.
