D2 Wednesday at Curtis
Last Wednesday was not the Pleasanton Bulldogs football team’s best day in the world. Host Medicine Valley upended the visiting Bulldogs 69-30 to advance in the 2011 D2 football playoff.
Though coach Pleasanton Ricci Westland would not mention it, two of the Bulldogs first line players were not available for most of the game. Receiver Clay Weber was lost last week with an injury and Jason Nichols, a valued halfback, went down early in the action at Medicine Valley.
The Raiders opened game scoring with a 35 yard pass from Riley Garey to Hunter Timmons that scored a touchdown. Lucas Gleisberg passed to Colton Aspenleiter for the extra points.
Pleasanton came right back with a score of their own when Austin Paitz bulled three yards for the first Bulldog touchdown.
Medicine Valley answered with Josh Leas pushing across the goal line after a Pleasanton fumble at the one yard line. After one period of play the Raiders held a slight 14-6 lead.
The second period was a back and forth affair with 43 points going up on the scoreboard.
Action started when Bulldog Paitz crossed over the goal line for the second time with another three yard carry for six points. Paitz then passed to Colin Janitscheck for the conversion points.
Medicine Valley put the next three scores on the board starting with a pass from Garey to Aspenleiter for 35 yards and a touchdown.
Timmons came back with another Raider score when he got loose for a 20 yard run and six points. Garey ran for the PAT.
A short time later Garey added six points on a one yard run for Medicine Valley.
Pleasanton worked back into the scoring column when quarterback Janitscheck carried the last yard for the Bulldog touchdown. Janitscheck then connected with Derrick Tolles for the conversion.
